PADANG – At least 100 badminton players from Padang City took part in the Lubuk Kilangan Cup I Badminton Championship, held on December 20–25, 2025. The tournament, offering a total prize pool of Rp30 million, took place at the One Grup Badminton Hall, Gadut, Lubuk Kilangan.
The five-day championship featured six age-group categories, namely Boys’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, Grade C, Grade B, Pauh–Luki category, and the Women’s (Mothers) category.
According to Chief Organizer Alfi Beben One, the boys’ singles and boys’ doubles categories attracted significant interest from players. These two categories served as a pre-selection event for the 2026 West Sumatra Provincial Sports Week (Porprov Sumbar).
“The Padang City KONI has designated the Luki Cup as a pre-selection event for Porprov, and this was confirmed directly by the Chairman of KONI Padang City,” said Alfi Beben on the sidelines of the final matches on Thursday (25/12/2025).
Alfi Beben expressed hope that the Luki Cup would produce badminton players capable of competing at the national and even international levels. To achieve this goal, he plans to encourage KONI Padang and PBSI Padang City to organize more badminton tournaments.
It was noted that during the Luki Cup, badminton clubs from Padang City fielded their best players, including PB Kurao, PB Mahmuda, and PB Sahabat Sejati.
The year-end badminton championship also attracted strong spectator interest, with supporters from each club enthusiastically cheering and chanting for their teams.
Meanwhile, Chairman of KONI Padang City, Erianto Mahmuda, welcomed the Luki Cup Badminton Championship positively. He challenged the organizing committee to hold the event annually.
“If possible, this championship should be upgraded next year, for example by organizing it at the West Sumatra provincial or regional level,” he emphasized. (***)
